Honoree Roy Bell:

Roy Bell was born in Mt. Kisco, New York in 1936. The Bell family lived in Chappaqua where Roy’s father was a sergeant in the Chappaqua Police Department and his mother worked for Readers Digest. In 1956 Roy was hired by the New York Telephone Company, where he worked for three years before being drafted into the United States Army.   Roy then completed training at Fort Benning, Georgia.  With his experience in the phone company, the Army assigned Roy to Camp Gordon, Georgia for advanced signal training.  After completing his training at Camp Gordon, Roy was stationed at Fort Bragg for the rest of his military service.  In 1962, Roy was honorably discharged and returned to upstate New York to resume working for the New York Telephone Company, before his retirement in 1994. Roy has lived in Hampton Bays since his retirement. He has served as head usher for over 20 years at St. Rosalie’s Church. He is a member of the Hand- Aldrich Post of the American Legion, where he previously served as Sergeant of Arms for five years.
