Town of Southampton, NY January 15, 2025 — At the January 14, 2025 regular meeting of the Southampton Town Board, Senior Fire Marshal Chris Hansen was promoted to Assistant Chief Fire Marshal and Fire Marshal Ryan White was promoted to Senior Fire Marshal.
Town Supervisor Maria Moore led the Town Board in extending congratulations to the two fire marshals on their promotion. “I commend you on your work and dedication to the Town and wish you great success in these new positions.”
Town Code Compliance and Emergency Management Administrator, Ryan Murphy said, “Chris and Ryan have nearly 40 years of combined service to the Town of Southampton and our residents and visitors. Chris has more than 31 years of service to the Town and Ryan nearly six years of service. Both of these men are dedicated professionals who are committed to the safety of our Town. They are respected individuals and I am so proud to be able to recognize them with these promotions.”
Councilwoman Cyndi McNamara, who is liaison to the Fire Marshal’s Office also congratulated the two fire marshals and stated, “These two employees are excellent examples of the high-quality staff that we are lucky to have here at the Town. The dedication and commitment that they show to their profession and our residents is worthy of recognition and promotion.”
Town of Southampton Chief Fire Marshal, John Rankin stated, “I have worked with Chris during his entire career in the Fire Marshal’s Office. He is incredibly deserving of this recognition and I am thrilled to have him by my side as our Assistant Chief Fire Marshal. Ryan White has also worked very hard during his time with the Town. He is respected by his colleagues and has demonstrated tremendous promise during his time in our office. I am happy to see the Town promote him to his new role as well. Our office has a very bright future ahead.”
The remainder of the Town Board, as well as all of the staff from the Fire Marshal’s Office joined in extending their congratulations to Hansen and White.
The Fire Marshal’s Office promotes fire safety and prevention, assists businesses in their compliance with various fire codes, and collaborates with local fire departments and emergency medical personnel throughout the Town. Fire Prevention personnel are responsible for inspections of commercial properties, performing fire investigations, and issuing a variety of permits including but not limited to outdoor dining, public assemblies, certain outdoor fires, and special events. The Fire Marshal’s Office also reviews subdivision plans, commercial building plans, fire sprinkler plans, and site plans. The Office also maintains a regional hazardous materials response team.
