Re: “Southampton to Deerfield Transmission Project”
Dear Neighbor:
PSEG Long Island LLC (“PSEG Long Island”), on behalf of and as agent for the Long Island Lighting Company d/b/a LIPA, is proposing construction of a new underground electric transmission line to increase the reliability and load capacity of the electric transmission system on the South Fork. The project, called the Southampton to Deerfield Transmission Project or SHDF Project, consists of a new, 138 kilovolt underground transmission line between the Southampton Substation (intersection of North Sea Road and West Prospect Street) and the Deerfield Substation (on Watermill Towd Road).
PSEG Long Island is installing a new underground transmission circuit to meet the growing demand for electricity and provide greater system reliability. The line must be installed to meet current and future capacity needs on the South Fork, to continue the provision of safe, robust, and reliable service in the area, and remain in compliance with applicable regulations.
As part of the Article VII application process, the New York State Public Service Commission will hold virtual public information sessions and public statement hearings for the SHDF Project on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. For details on these events, please see the enclosed “Notice of Public Information Forums and Public Statement Hearings, and Soliciting Public Comments.” Enclosed with this letter you will also find a fact sheet that offers an overview of the SHDF Project and a notice about the settlement process.
Thank you again for your time, and we appreciate your consideration of this important project.
Sincerely,
Anthony Carullo
Project Manager, PSEG Long Island
