WHERE: Join us at Southampton Town Hall in the Town Hall Auditorium for Shinnecock Heritage Day.
WHEN: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
WHAT: There will be a traditional food tasting and educational programing that will aim to help bridge the Southampton and Shinnecock communities together. The evening will mark the first time the Town of Southampton has officially held an event recognizing the Shinnecock Nation’s sovereign status as a federally recognized tribe, which had been designated to the Shinnecock people in October of 2010 by the Federal Government.
WHY: Pursuant to Resolution 2024-217, the Town created an annual recognition that aims to highlight the history of the Shinnecock Nation and unique contributions to the Town.Therefore, on Tuesday, October 1st ay 4 PM, it will be the first “Shinnecock Heritage Day” recognizing the rights of First Peoples in Southampton. There will be music, an educational panel discussion, and traditional dinner, making it a family-friendly event for the whole community.
