The Town of Southampton, through its membership with the Suffolk County Consortium’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, receives federal assistance from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

These federally funded grants are available for community development projects and improvements in federally designated low/moderate-income areas established by HUD. Eligible activities include construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation or installation of public facilities and infrastructure improvements.

Over the past several years, CDBG funds have supported projects including

  • Riverside: add a new bus shelter on Flanders Road (Rt. 24)
  • David Crohan Center in Flanders: improvements including construction of a new inclusive play space for seniors and youth with a bocce court, game tables, and picnic area.
  • Red Creek Park: improvements including installation of new sidewalks around the Activity Center and repair of the Hockey Rink.
  • Iron Point Park: grade and pave roadway for better access to the park; expansion of parking area.
  • Ludlam Park: improvements including new sidewalks; repair and replacement of perimeter, soccer field and basketball court fencing; resurfacing of basketball courts; and installation of security lights, bike racks, and shade shelters and repair of the parking lot.
  • Elliston Park: installation of new ADA access down to the waterfront seating area, asphalt path and parking area improvements.
  • North Sea Community Park: installation of pickleballcourts and new playground equipment, improvements to Skate Park, and installation of new sidewalks.
  • Shinnecock Maritime Park: design and construction of a new multi-generational inclusive play space.
  • Town Hall: installation of new ADA-compliant ramp

Not-for-profit public service agencies may apply for funding to support their programs. These grants are competitive and subject to HUD funding approvals.
