Sat, Dec. 6, 8am-9am. Narrow Lane Cleanup. Help STPS clean up litter from our adopted road. Meet on Narrow Lane and east corner of Norris Lane, Bridgehampton. Bring gloves. Free 2025 membership to new volunteers! Leader: Dai Dayton, 631-745-0689.
Sat, Dec 6, 11am. Horses On Trails (HOT) Ride at Brookhaven State Park. Meet at parking area at 2500 William Floyd Pkwy in Ridge. Leg up and ready to go at 11 am. BYO horse and helmet. Must be STPS member; can sign up day of ride. Helmets required for insurance purposes. Tailgate after ride, bring a dish to share if staying. Sat, Dec. 6, 10am-11:30am. Poxabogue County Park and Sagg Swamp. Meet at the Park entrance at 191 Old Farm Road in Bridgehampton, just south of the RR trestle. Join Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt for an easy hike with views of grasslands, ponds and swamp. Leader: Dai Dayton, 631-745-0689.
Sat, Dec 13, 10am-11am. Whiskey Hill Hike. Meet on Mill Path off Lopers Path (heading east), Bridgehampton. Moderately paced 1.7-mile hike with ocean views from top of moraine with kettle hole ponds and an enormous glacial erratic along the way. Leader: Jean Mc Dermott, 631-599-2391.
Sat, Dec 20, 10am-Noon. Annual American Chestnut Hike at Emma Rose Elliston/Wolf Swamp Preserves. Meet in the Elliston Park parking lot, 40 Millstone Brook Road, Southampton. Mostly flat terrain with a few hills, moderate pace, about 3 miles (1 mile option). Experts April Gonzales and Niko Niantsis will talk about and point out rare surviving American Chestnut Trees. Sunday, Dec 28, 10am-12 pm. Barcelona Neck New Year's Excursion. Come ponder New Year's reflections in the meditative Linda Gronlund Memorial Nature Preserve (Barcelona Neck). The Barcelona Neck Preserve in Sag Harbor offers a peaceful and scenic hike through coastal woodlands, salt marshes, and along the quiet shores of Sag Harbor Bay. The moderate trail winds through forest, provides views of wildlife and glimpses of the water. Perfect for a nature hike, this lesser-known spot captures the natural beauty of the East End. Meet at Sag Harbor Golf Club parking lot on Barcelona Neck Road off of Route 114 in Sag Harbor. Moderately brisk 5.5-mile hike. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Layer as necessary.
